The last days of the Second World War. American aircraft bomb defenseless Japanese cities. 14-year-old Seita and his sister Setsuko fall into the maelstrom of a human daily nightmare. Having experienced the most bitter loss - the loss of loved ones, they were left alone. A young boy immediately becomes an adult, faced with the cruelty of the world. He realizes that his little sister's life depends on him. Hiding in an abandoned shelter, Seita and Setsuko try to survive, relying only on their own strength. And let the deadly fire in the sky be in your eyes - just the lights of fireflies, the cruel war does not spare even the innocent children's souls, delivering its merciless sentence to them...
