The film "City of God" is based on the novel of the same name by Paulo Lins. "City of God" is the name of a residential area in the suburbs of Rio de Janeiro, where the author of the book grew up. To write it, Paula Lins spent eight years interviewing residents of the area, collecting materials on the organization of the local drug business, which led to the war of gangs in this suburb in 1970-80. The main character of the picture is the very place of action, one of the most dangerous in the city.
