Chilean refugee Wilhelm Goetz, regent of the boys' choir and organist, was killed in the Armenian Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Paris. Kasdan, a retired police officer and cathedral parishioner, immediately begins his own unofficial investigation. He is joined by Frank Salek of the Juvenile Division. It turns out that in the past several boys from the choirs that Goetz directed had disappeared. The first crime is followed by even more bloody murders. There is a mysterious connection between the perilous investigation into which the heroes embark and the ancient chorale "Miserere"...
