During the shooting of the film, the writer himself visited the site more than once, directing the process, however, without interfering with the adaptation very much. Carey Mulligan, Amy Adams and Jessica Chastain applied for the main female role. Released in a limited release in the US, the film earned the attention of a thoughtful viewer. Leading critics noted the strong bar of a quality thriller, which is what the author of the original book, John le Carré, is famous for.
