Sherlock Holmes is long retired. He is 93 years old and lives in Sussex on a remote estate with his housekeeper, Mrs. Munro, and her young son, Roger. Holmes suffers from the fact that his memory is no longer the same, and makes unpleasant jokes with him. He even traveled to Hiroshima to get the medicine he needed. He learned a lesson and prepared for the role on his own. McKellen took a beekeeping course at the London Honey Company for the film Mr. Holmes. The composer of the tape was the laureate of the Venice Film Festival, Carter Burwell.
