Nine-year-old Roman goes to his mother Oksana, who has gone to Germany to work illegally. There she lives with Gert, a 62-year-old widower who suffers from diabetes. Gert tries to make friends with the boy, but Roman is primarily interested in his mother's attention. Suddenly Oksana gets sick and Roman is left alone with his rival. Gert turns out to be surprisingly fun to play with until he dies of a stroke. So Roman and the corpse find themselves trapped in a real wasteland...
